They Need Our Help!

As the extent of the disaster continues to unfold in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the need for help becomes more and more apparent.

I would urge you to make a contribution to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Most of us live far away from the Gulf Coast, but this is something we can do, today, to help make a difference.

I will be making my contributions to LDS Humanitarian Services, which is the charitible relief arm of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons).

One thing that I like about this charity is that 100% of the donations go directly to relief efforts. Many other charities take a cut from the proceeds to fund their own operations, with the remainder of donations going to relief efforts.

However, if you would like to contribute to another charity, here is a list of charities from NZ Bear. You can also find more charities through Instapundit as well.

Here's what to do:

1. Make your credit card donation here or to a charity of your choice.

2. You can log your contribution here.

After Logging your contribution, you can see how the blogosphere is helping with Katarina relief efforts here.

What they need is to move out of the low lying spots which _WILL_ breach and fill in with water again during a future disaster. The levies will not hold and are a horrible waste and risk. It is bizzare when people make statements like that about not being able to imagine the disaster striking. It just shows they are people of very limited mind sets. Perhaps they are simply trying to avoid thinking about it. It would be best if they just abandoned the city of New Orleans and all like places that are too low and rebuilt elsewhere. But no, they're going to spend tens of billions of our tax dollars to rebuild. A waste. Let the swamps and the sea reclaim the cities.

The issue at the moment is not the advisability of rebuilding the sub-sea level places. That is an issue you can take up with your political representatives.

The issue here, and the reason for the plea for donations is to take care of the immediate needs of people who are suffering as a result of the hurricaine and the flooding.

They are hungry, sick, injured, lost, and now homeless. Many or them have been through harrowing experiences, watching loved ones perish right before their eyes! This is an appeal to provide help and comfort to those in need and who suffer.

Now is not the time to point fingers of blame or recrimination. Now is the time to save lives!

Let your better side have compassion on these people. Give of yourself. You never know when a disaster might strike your hometown. In such a case, you would hope that people would have compassion for your circumstances as well.
